Introducing Professor Anne Koivisto

Professor, Specialist in Neurology, Anne Koivisto works in several national and international research groups, networks and trust positions. In her research, she focuses on different memory disorders, especially on Alzheimer’s disease idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus. 

“In the BEGAD project, we develop methods for early diagnostics of Alzheimer’s disease. The ALSOVA project is one of the best monitoring studies in the international scale”, Anne tells. The ALSOVA project, which is led by Anne, Alzheimer patients and their caregivers are monitored from the early stage of the disease for five years. In addition to extensive interview data, patients’ medical and medication records are available for the researchers.     

Anne also works as part-time professor of Medical Education at the University of Eastern Finland. She has served as the local project manager in the MEDigi project funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture. The project was part of the national development work of medical education. Her positive attitude and interest in teaching has also been noted by the medical students at the UEF. Her students gave her an honorary title “The Oldest of the Kuopio Medical Student’s Society 2022-23”.
